At Phoenix Performing Arts we are passionate about delivering excellent dance training, encouraging a love of dance and providing a secure foundation from which to grow. We ask that students, parents/carers and staff adhere to our clear rules and regulations policy at all times.

Compliance with our rules is vital if your child wishes to join our school.  Please read the following information carefully and be aware that signing up to join the school means you are agreeing to abide by our rules.

Rules and Regulations

Invoicing and Payment

You will not be charged for the free trial lesson. After this, an invoice will be issued for the remaining lessons in the enrolment term, and all subsequent invoices will be issued on a termly basis. Terms run between 10 and 14 weeks, depending on the school term dates set by the local council.

Fees must be paid before the term begins or within the first three weeks of term. Any fees not received within this period will incur a 5% administration fee, in line with other dance schools. If fees remain unpaid by half term, we reserve the right to refuse entry to classes.

Refunds and cancellations

No refunds are given for missed classes unless there are exceptional circumstances. In the event of bad weather, please check the website and Facebook page for updates; parents/carers will also be notified via text or email. If classes must be cancelled due to bad weather, teacher illness, the school is unable to reimburse or reschedule these sessions, as hall hire and staffing costs still apply. In all other circumstances where we cancel a class, a replacement class or refund will be provided.

Uniform

Please refer to the uniform section on our website for the correct requirements for each class. It is essential that students wear the appropriate regulation uniform. Please note: if purchasing ballet uniform elsewhere, it must meet RAD regulation standards. This is the only acceptable uniform for students wishing to take examinations.

Ballet shoes must be correctly fitted by a teacher or a specialist outfitter. Unless otherwise requested by the teacher, ballet shoes should have full soles and secure elastic. This is vital for your child’s safety and proper foot support. High‑street ballet shoes are not accepted; if a student’s shoes are unsuitable, we reserve the right to request replacements.

No outside clothing may be worn during class, except school‑branded outerwear. Jewellery is not permitted, apart from small stud earrings. Hair must be neatly tied back in a bun for all classes; fringes that fall below the eyebrows must be clipped back or secured with a headband.

We strongly recommend labelling all uniform items. The school cannot accept responsibility for lost property.

Attending other dancing schools

Students may not attend classes in any discipline we offer (e.g., Ballet, Tap, Modern) at another dance school—including online—without prior permission or recommendation from the Principal. Participation in associate programmes, workshops, or similar activities must also be approved by the Principal. Failure to follow this policy may result in the student being asked to leave the school.

Safety

The safety and wellbeing of students is our priority during scheduled dance classes. However, teachers cannot take responsibility for students before or after their class time, or during online sessions. Parents/carers are expected to ensure that children behave safely and respectfully when arriving, leaving, and that they are appropriately dressed.

Our teachers follow safe‑practice guidelines in every teaching environment, but all students participate at their own risk. Although we take every reasonable step to minimise the chance of injury or illness, the school cannot accept liability for injuries or infections that occur either inside or outside the studio.

Parents/carers must inform the teacher of any medical conditions, ongoing injuries, or specific needs (such as asthma, EpiPen use, or diabetic monitoring). All teachers hold first‑aid training and, in an emergency, will act in loco parentis if a parent/carer is not present, including contacting emergency services when necessary.

For further information on how we safeguard students, please refer to our Child Protection Policy and Health and Safety Policy.

Behaviour

We aim to maintain a positive, supportive and respectful environment for everyone. All students, parents/carers and staff are expected to conduct themselves with kindness and courtesy.

Teachers use positive reinforcement as their primary approach, offering praise and encouragement to promote good behaviour. Minor behavioural issues will be addressed promptly by the teacher. Any more serious concerns will be referred to the Principal and discussed in a meeting involving the student, their parents/carers and the Principal.

Students are expected to follow the school’s Code of Conduct, show commitment to their learning, treat others with respect and avoid any form of aggressive or bullying behaviour. If a student’s behaviour becomes disruptive, the teacher will first attempt to resolve the situation calmly. If the issue continues, the Principal and parents/carers will be involved.

Parents/carers are also expected to follow the school’s Code of Conduct, behave respectfully and support the decisions made by teachers. Aggressive or abusive behaviour towards staff will not be tolerated. In such cases, the school reserves the right to contact the Police, and this behaviour may result in immediate removal from the school.
